8th Cairo Int'l Monodrama Days to honour Egyptian actor Abdulaziz Makhyoon

The 8th edition of the Cairo International Monodrama Days will honour esteemed Egyptian actor Abdulaziz Makhyoon in recognition of his rich artistic career and outstanding contributions to Egyptian theatre.

Also known as the Cairo Monodrama Festival, the event will run from 2 to 6 October across several Cairo stages.

This year’s edition will also mark the centenary of the birth of renowned English theatre director Peter Brook.

The festival, headed by Osama Raouf, sheds light on monodrama works from Egypt, the Middle East, and beyond. 

Its 7th edition honoured Nelly, Elham Shahin, and Hany Ramzy.

Abdulaziz Makhyoon
 

Born in 1946, Abdulaziz Makhyoon graduated from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts and began his career in theatre, performing in numerous plays.

In the 1970s, as he transitioned to cinema, he had the opportunity to work with some of Egypt's most celebrated directors, including Ali Badrakhan in Karnak (1975) and Youssef Chahine in Alexandria...Why? (1978) and Hadouta Masreya (An Egyptian Story, 1982).

Working with such renowned directors paved the way for a thriving cinematic career during which Makhyoon appeared in more than 60 films and over 100 television series. 

Among his most notable TV roles are Al-Shahd wel Domouaa (1985), Layaly Al Helmiya I and II (1987, 1989), Um Kalthoum (1999), and Al Gama’a I and II (2010, 2017), to name a few, cementing his status as a household name in Egypt.
