The visit is part of ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in multiple fields.

Egypt and Rwanda have maintained diplomatic ties for over six decades, with Cairo among the first capitals to recognize Rwanda’s independence in 1962.

A Joint Committee was established in 1989 to organize cooperation, covering politics, trade, education, health, and capacity-building.

One key project is an Egyptian logistics zone in Rwanda, built on land allocated by Kigali near its border with Tanzania.

The zone is designed to lower transportation costs, increase Egyptian exports to East Africa, and serve as a hub for warehousing, customs, and transport services.

Egypt and Rwanda also work closely as Nile Basin countries, where collaboration has become increasingly important amid regional water challenges.

Both governments have stressed the need for fair use of Nile resources within the Nile Basin Initiative framework, with Egypt providing technical expertise in irrigation, water management, and training to support Rwanda’s agricultural and development goals.

This cooperation aligns with Cairo’s wider strategy to strengthen ties with upstream states, safeguard sustainable water security, and promote shared development across the basin.

Health has been another major focus of bilateral ties. The Magdi Yacoub Rwanda-Egypt Heart Centre in Kigali is emerging as a regional centre for cardiac care, reflecting Egypt’s support for Rwanda’s medical infrastructure.

Egypt has also supplied medical equipment for heart treatment and expressed readiness to collaborate in the pharmaceutical sector, including regulation and joint production.
