The programme is hosted by Ahmed Salem and produced by United Media Services (UMS), which announced the comeback in a statement.

UMS said the move “underscores ON Network’s commitment to delivering bold yet credible content, offering viewers a unique opportunity to follow the journey of one of the most influential voices in Arab media.”

Youssef will share reflections on his personal and professional life in the West, along with anecdotes from his recent media career.

In a Facebook post, he said he would soon return to Egyptian TV screens from Los Angeles, reflecting on his personal journey in recent years and sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes from his media appearances.

“I will be Ahmed Salem’s guest on the programme Kelma Akhira, joining via satellite, or just a Wi-Fi router, in an exclusive interview on 7 October,” the former heart surgeon quipped.

The surgeon-turned-satirist has recently surged back into the spotlight with a string of viral interviews, including one with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, in which he lambasted Zionism and Israel’s war on Gaza.

Long known for his pro-Palestinian stance, Youssef has drawn both praise and controversy for his sharp criticism of Israeli policies.

Bassem Youssef first rose to prominence in 2011 with the YouTube show B+, before launching Al-Barnameg on ONTV, a political satire inspired by Jon Stewart’s Daily Show.

It later moved to CBC and MBC Masr, filming at Cairo’s historic Radio Theatre, before its cancellation in 2014. He subsequently relocated to the United States, where he pursued stand-up comedy and continued his media work.

Born in 1974, Youssef graduated from Cairo University’s Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and trained as a heart surgeon before turning to satire.

Today, he remains one of the Arab world’s most widely recognized voices for his biting critique of social and political issues.
