The 23-year-old, born in France to an Egyptian father and a Tunisian mother, is eligible for citizenship in three countries but has not yet committed to any.

“The talks started years ago, but I have not reached a final agreement,” Hassan told MBC Masr 2. “I am proud of my Egyptian roots, but the decision has not been made yet. I will take it soon after consulting with my agents.”

He dismissed reports that he had set conditions for joining Egypt, such as guaranteed playing time.

“I have no conditions at all. Any player should be proud to represent Egypt. I respect coach Hossam Hassan, but I did not ask for guarantees,” he said.

With the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers approaching, the La Liga forward acknowledged he would need to decide soon.

Hassan also touched on Egyptian football’s domestic rivalry, revealing his father is a lifelong Zamalek supporter and that he, too, would be cheering for the Cairo club in their upcoming clash against Ahly.
