According to Egypt’s foreign ministry, Rubio praised Cairo’s central role in regional peace efforts and stressed Washington’s commitment to intensifying coordination with Egypt to end the war and restore stability.
Abdelatty welcomed the initiative and reiterated Egypt’s call for an immediate ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and urgent entry of humanitarian aid “in quantities that match the scale of the crisis.”
He underlined Cairo’s rejection of any displacement of Palestinians, stressing the need to preserve the territorial link between Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The minister also emphasized the importance of opening a “credible political horizon” based on a two-state solution, guaranteeing Palestinians’ legitimate rights, including self-determination and statehood.
At a joint presser with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Monday, Trump unveiled a 20-point proposal combining immediate security steps with longer-term governance and reconstruction measures.
It calls for a ceasefire and the release of all captives within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance, alongside the release of Palestinian prisoners, including those serving life sentences.
The plan rejects annexation or forced displacement, commits to large-scale humanitarian aid, and envisions Gaza’s demilitarization under international monitoring.
An International Stabilization Force, including Arab partners, would secure the enclave and train a vetted Palestinian police force.
At the governance level, the plan foresees a transitional Palestinian technocratic administration overseen by an international “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump, with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair as a member.
It also requires Israel to withdraw from Gaza while donors launch a reconstruction program.
The proposal gestures toward a two-state solution and Palestinian self-determination, though without timelines or guarantees of statehood.
