The move follows the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) signing licensing agreements with seven leading global automotive companies on Tuesday.
The companies granted licenses to introduce these IoT-enabled services in Egypt include General Motors’ OnStar, Mansour MG Automotive (IM), Global Auto (BMW), Alfa Ezz Elarab (Volvo, Aston Martin, Lotus, Lynk&Co), EIM (Zeekr, BAIC), Egyptian Automotive Trading (Audi, Skoda), and SMG Engineering (Porsche, Scania)
The NTRA said the service will allow drivers to safely access smart systems such as navigation, vehicle tracking, and emergency calls while ensuring user data protection and privacy.
Communications Minister Amr Talaat witnessed the signing ceremony, who attended the signing ceremony, noted that introducing IoT services enhances driving experiences and reflects Egypt’s broader digital transformation efforts.
“A fully digital society cannot be built without harnessing the advantages of advanced digital ecosystems,” he said, adding that artificial intelligence will play a key role in continuously upgrading services.
NTRA CEO Mohamed Shamroukh described the step as “a new beginning for Egypt’s smart transport system,” stressing that it aligns with the state’s Digital Egypt strategy and commitment to safeguarding user rights and data security.
