Ahmed “Kabaka” Khalid fired the young Pharaohs ahead after five minutes, but Luke Brooke-Smith levelled eight minutes later and Tze-Xuan Loke sealed the victory in the 16th minute to hand New Zealand their first points of the tournament.
The result leaves Egypt rooted to the bottom of the group without a point, having opened the campaign with a 2-0 loss to Japan on Saturday.
While New Zealand, beaten 3-1 by Chile in their opener, move level on three points with both Japan and Chile ahead of their upcoming game on Wednesday.
The young Pharaohs started the match brightly, threatening the New Zealand goal in the opening minutes.
Five minutes into the game, Kabaka opened the scoring with a powerful right-footed strike from very close range.
However, New Zealand responded swiftly, with Luke Brooke-Smith capitalizing on a precise cross from Stipe Ukich to level the score in the 13th minute.
New Zealand continued to apply pressure and took the lead three minutes later when Tze-Xuan Loke fired a left-footed shot from very close range.
The young Pharaohs pushed forward after conceding but struggled to seriously pose threats the New Zealand, with their attackers lacking cutting edge in the final third.
The top two teams in each group, along with the best four third-placed sides, will progress to the knockout stage of the tournament, hosted by Chile from 27 September to 19 October.
Egypt will wrap up the group stage against hosts Chile on Saturday and will need a convincing win and favourable results elsewhere to have any hope of progressing as one of the four best third-placed sides.
