In an interview to the “Akher Al-Nahar” TV show on Al-Nahar TV channel on Tuesday, the Minister said that the initiative, launched under the directives of the Prime Minister, aims to simplify the process of legalizing foreign domestic labor without requiring backdated fees or complex procedures.
Gobran stressed that the measure is designed to ensure lawful employment practices while easing the burden on workers and employers alike.
He added that the ministry had recorded over 7,000 violations related to foreign work permits in just 17 days, underscoring the seriousness of its efforts to regulate the labor market according to the new labour law, which came into effect in September.
The minister further noted that the initiative includes additional exemptions, like workers in small establishments such as restaurants will be eligible for annual permits at a fee of EGP 3,000, while standard regulations will continue to apply to larger enterprises and higher-income employees.
He also revealed that the ministry is currently conducting inspections on occupational safety and health within the construction sector, stressing the need for a qualified officer specialized in safety and health standards to issue work orders and establish safe zones.
