In a televised address on Saturday marking the anniversary of senior Hezbollah commanders killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon last year, Qassem described the US proposal as “full of dangers,” arguing it seeks to secure for Israel through politics what it could not gain through “aggression, extermination, and starvation.”
Qassem said Hezbollah would not delve into “the details” of Trump's plan, stressing that “the Palestinian resistance, represented by Hamas and the factions, are the ones who will discuss and decide what they deem appropriate.”
He also pointed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks last August about a “Greater Israel project,” warning that Israel’s ambitions threaten the entire region.
“We must all confront Israel from our position and according to our ability,” he said. “Even if one is not convinced of the justice of the Palestinian cause, he must at least realize that the danger will reach him sooner or later.”
Qassem reiterated last week that Hezbollah “will not abandon the frontlines or give up its weapons,” cautioning against attempts to provoke internal conflict in Lebanon.
Despite a ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024, based on the United Nations (UN) Resolution 1701, Israel has continued cross-border incursions and strikes, occupying five points in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah continues to face pressure at home and abroad to disarm, amid a five-phase plan drafted by the Lebanese army at the government’s request, a proposal the group has categorically rejected.
