Egypt kick off preparations for Djibouti’s crucial World Cup qualifier; Salah to join Monday

Egypt National football team kicked off their preparations on Sunday night for Wednesday’s anticipated World Cup African qualifier against Djibouti.

The Pharaohs will be facing Djibouti in Morocco in the ninth round of the prestigious tournament qualifiers.

The seven-time African champions, Egypt, need just one point from their remaining two matches to seal qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals.

On Saturday, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan announced a 24-man squad for the two anticipated World Cup African qualifiers against Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau.

According to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), 19 Players attended Sunday’s training session; while Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah, Nantes’ striker Mostafa Mohamed, and Pyramids FC’s trio of midfielders Mostafa Fathy, defender Mohamed Hamdy and midfielder Mohanad Lasheen are all to join the camp on Monday.

Egypt, who top Group A with 20 points, five ahead of second-placed Burkina Faso, will be hosting Guinea-Bissau at Cairo International Stadium on 12 October.
