"I urge all concerned to abide fully by the terms of the agreement," he said in a post on X, adding that a permanent ceasefire must be secured."
"The fighting must stop once and for all."
Deeply moved by the immense suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, where the UN had earlier declared a famine, Guterres reiterated his call for the immediate and unimpeded entry of humanitarian supplies and essential commercial materials into the Strip.
“The suffering must end,” he stressed.
The UN will support the full implementation of the agreement and will scale up the delivery of sustained and principled humanitarian relief, and we will advance recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, according to him.
"I commend the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye in brokering this desperately needed breakthrough."
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Hamas and Israel have signed in Sharm El-Sheikh the first phase of his 'peace plan' aimed at ending the two-year-old war in Gaza.
