US President Donald Trump announced that Hamas and Israel have signed in Sharm El-Sheikh the first phase of his peace plan aimed at ending the two-year-old war in Gaza.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the accord stipulates the release of all captives “soon” and the withdrawal of Israeli forces to an agreed line, describing it as “the first step toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace.”

He praised Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their efforts as mediators, calling it “a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, for Israel, for the United States, and for all neighbouring nations.”

He concluded with the words: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
