Al-Sheikh made his remarks during a phone call on Thursday with Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, where they discussed recent developments following the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Al-Sheikh expressed his deep appreciation for President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s pivotal role in reaching the ceasefire, highlighting his efforts to end the war in Gaza and safeguard Palestinian rights, according to a foreign ministry statement.

“Without Egypt’s mediation and sponsorship of the negotiations, the agreement would not have been possible,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The call also reviewed the terms of the agreement and related arrangements, including the forthcoming role of the Palestinian Authority.

Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of international support for the Palestinian Authority as the legitimate governing body, to enable it to carry out its responsibilities.

He expressed hope that the agreement would help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the strip.

The deal, agreed by Israel and Hamas, provides for a ceasefire and the exchange of captives held in Gaza for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli jails.
