The summit, called by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, is likely to take place on Tuesday in Sharm El-Sheikh, though the timing could shift to Monday, according to the report. It aims to rally broader international support for Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan, which still faces significant challenges regarding governance, security, and reconstruction.
The summit comes as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect in Gaza on Friday, marking the first phase of the Trump plan. Attention now turns to the expected release of captives within the next 72 hours and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which has been devastated by Israel’s two-year war.
According to Axios, Egypt has already reached out to the leaders or foreign ministers of Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Indonesia, inviting them to participate in the summit.
A US official told Axios that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not expected to attend. While US officials confirmed that Trump would attend, the White House declined to comment, the report said.
Trump is expected to arrive in Israel on Monday morning, where he will give a speech at the Knesset and meet families of Israeli captives. In the afternoon, he will travel to Egypt to meet El-Sisi and take part in a signing ceremony with Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, the principal guarantors of the current ceasefire and post-war framework, according to Axios.
The summit is expected to take place in Sharm el-Sheikh, the Red Sea resort town where much of the initial Gaza agreement was negotiated.
