According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi stressed the importance of reaching a complete consensus on all aspects of the agreement and ensuring its full implementation.
Guterres, for his part, thanked Egypt and President El-Sisi for their tireless efforts to end the war in Gaza, praising Cairo's extensive work over the past two years to mediate ceasefires, ease the humanitarian crisis, and facilitate the delivery of aid in coordination with the UN and international relief agencies.
He said he hoped to continue cooperating with Egyptian governmental and humanitarian institutions to improve conditions in Gaza.
Moreover, the UN chief agreed with El-Sisi on the need to finalise the details of the ceasefire's phases. He also underlined the importance of establishing a pathway toward the creation of a Palestinian state, in line with international legitimacy, in a way that ensures that Gaza and the West Bank remain united under the principle of self-determination.
The Egyptian Presidency added that Guterres emphasised the deployment of international forces in Gaza and securing international legitimacy for the ceasefire agreement through the UN Security Council.
He also called for the immediate launch of Gaza's reconstruction process and welcomed Egypt's upcoming conference dedicated to this effort.
Guterres described Egypt as "a pivotal and indispensable actor" in achieving stability in the Middle East and safeguarding Palestinian rights. He further noted that President El-Sisi's leadership played a decisive role in reaching this landmark agreement.
In return, President El-Sisi expressed gratitude to the UN Secretary-General for his constructive stance since the onset of the Gaza crisis.
He affirmed that Egypt has already begun dispatching urgent food and medical aid shipments to Gaza following the ceasefire. He also reiterated Egypt's strong support for UN agencies—particularly UNRWA—in Gaza and in host countries, stressing the need for the agency to continue its historic role in providing relief and employment for Palestinian refugees.
