In a statement on Sunday, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry conveyed its “heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy” to Qatar’s government and people, and extended its “deepest sympathy to the families of the victims,” wishing the injured a swift recovery.
The ministry said Egypt “affirms its full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar in this painful incident.”
Earlier, Qatar’s embassy in Cairo mourned the deaths of its three Amiri Diwan employees, the government’s top administrative body, and confirmed that the two wounded are receiving treatment at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital.
It expressed gratitude to Egyptian authorities for what it described as their swift cooperation and follow-up after the crash.
Egyptian security sources told Reuters and Al Arabiya that the accident occurred on the Tunnel Road in the city of El-Tor, about 50 kilometres from Sharm El-Sheikh, when a tyre burst and the seven-seat vehicle overturned while travelling at high speed from Cairo.
