Egypt marked their fourth World Cup qualification with a 1-0 victory over Guinea Bissau at Cairo Stadium on Sunday, just days after sealing their spot with a 3-0 win over Djibouti.
“I am very happy with our qualification for the World Cup,” Trezeguet told ON Sport following the win.
“It’s a great honor to participate in the World Cup for a second time.”
The 31-year-old is one of only two players in the current squad — alongside Mohamed Salah — who featured at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Trezeguet said the team will now turn their attention to the Africa Cup of Nations, with the aim of ending a long continental title drought.
Egypt have not lifted the AFCON trophy since 2010 and lost in the finals in 2017 and 2021.
“We will now focus on the Africa Cup of Nations as we seek the title,” he said.
“I lost the final twice and I want to win it this time.”
Egypt will compete in Group B at the upcoming tournament, set to be held in Morocco in December, alongside Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa.
