The talks, according to the Egyptian Presidency, focused on Egypt’s pivotal role in facilitating the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which crowns two years of mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip.
El-Sisi stressed that the agreement marks an important step toward ending the war, increasing humanitarian aid access, releasing hostages and detainees, and setting the stage for reconstruction and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy.
Meloni expressed her country’s appreciation for Egypt’s leading role in promoting regional stability and reaffirmed Italy’s full support for efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.
The two leaders also discussed strengthening the growing Egypt-Italy partnership, with El-Sisi highlighting the importance of advancing cooperation in political, economic, and trade fields, as well as in energy, agriculture, construction, and tourism. Both sides agreed to facilitate greater communication between the business communities of both countries to boost bilateral trade.
The meeting also touched on Italy’s support for Egypt within the European Union, with both sides expressing anticipation of the success of the upcoming Egypt-EU meeting in Brussels on 22 October 2025.
