Speaking at a press conference on Monday marking the Air Force’s 93rd anniversary, Saqr said Egypt is among the leading countries in drone operations, possessing a wide range of UAVs capable of carrying out diverse missions with high precision.
He added that Egypt is jointly producing advanced drones, some of which were showcased at the 2024 Egypt International Air Show.
Saqr said the ongoing modernisation programme also includes infrastructure upgrades at air bases and airports to accommodate the latest aircraft, in line with Egypt’s regional security role amid rising global tensions.
Highlighting the importance of international cooperation, he pointed to the success of recent joint military exercises, including Bright Star 2025, which brought together diverse forces and tactics from multiple nations.
The Air Force has also supported civil and humanitarian missions, Saqr noted, including airlifting aid to Gaza, conducting medical evacuations, and firefighting in neighbouring countries. He said Arish Airport has been upgraded to facilitate international aid flights to Gaza.
Saqr affirmed that Air Force personnel “bear the solemn responsibility of protecting Egypt’s skies and maintaining complete air control over all strategic directions.”
Looking ahead, he announced that the second Egypt International Air Show will be held from 7–10 September 2026, with expanded participation from countries and aviation companies.
The Air Force’s 93rd anniversary coincides with the Armed Forces’ commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the 1973 October War and the Battle of Mansoura, which Saqr described as “a beacon of pride and dignity for all who defend the homeland.”
Recalling the 1973 encounter, he said the enemy’s attempted attack on Egyptian air bases on 14 October was met by the Air Force’s “Eagles,” who fought the longest air battle in history, lasting more than 50 minutes.
Saqr concluded by praising the “farsighted vision” of Egypt’s political and military leadership for modernising the Air Force through the acquisition of advanced aircraft, strengthening its capacity to safeguard national security and stability.
