Israeli forces kill six Palestinians in Gaza despite ceasefire

At least six Palestinians were killed and several others wounded on Tuesday after Israeli drones opened fire on residents inspecting their homes in Gaza City and Khan Younis, the latest in a series of deadly violations of the ceasefire agreement signed at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.

A medical source told WAFA that six people were killed when Israeli drones fired at Palestinians inspecting their homes in the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City.

The attacks came after an official ceasefire had come into effect, which was formally signed on Monday by US President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in what was hailed as a historic end to two years of war in Gaza.

“The war in Gaza is over,” US President Donald Trump declared. “Humanitarian aid is now pouring in, including hundreds of truckloads of food, medical equipment, and other supplies, much of it paid for by people in this room. Civilians are returning to their homes. The hostages are reuniting. I mean, it's beautiful.”

Thousands of bodies are still trapped under the rubble or lying in the streets as ambulance and civil defence crews struggle to reach them due to the extensive destruction.

On Monday, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, also in violation of the ceasefire, according to WAFA.

The agency said Israeli troops opened fire at Khalid Barbakh while he was inspecting his home in the al-Sikka area of the city, killing him instantly.

Israel’s two-year genocidal war on Gaza has killed 67,869 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded more than 170,000 others, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces on Tuesday raided Kisan School east of Bethlehem, security sources told WAFA.

They said troops entered the school and threatened teachers against discussing the issue of Palestinian prisoners, warning that any mention of them would prompt another raid.
