In a humanitarian gesture reflecting Egypt’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, the country’s four telecom operators—WE, Orange Egypt, e& Egypt, and Vodafone Egypt—have announced free international calls to the Gaza Strip for one week, allowing customers to check on their families and loved ones.

The initiative, launched in coordination with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), aims to ease communication barriers and provide emotional support to families separated by the war.

Orange Egypt was the first to announce the move, offering free calls to Gaza for seven days starting Monday in cooperation with the NTRA. Shortly after, Telecom Egypt (WE) joined the initiative, granting five free international minutes per day to Gaza for a week, starting Tuesday at noon.

e& Egypt (formerly Etisalat) and Vodafone Egypt also followed suit, rolling out identical offers providing free international calls to Gaza for one week beginning Tuesday.

Since November 2023, 172 Egyptian hospitals have provided medical care to 7,277 injured Palestinians from Gaza, performed 2,978 surgeries, and administered more than 18,000 vaccine doses, including 13,265 for children, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

The ministry said around 1,057 Palestinians remain under treatment in Egyptian facilities, accompanied by 1,657 family members.

Over the past two years, Egypt has also served as Gaza’s primary humanitarian lifeline, sending more than 45,000 aid trucks carrying over 570,000 tonnes of supplies, accounting for about 70 percent of all aid delivered to the Strip.

The collective effort by the Egyptian state and its institutions underscores Cairo’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and mitigating their suffering amid the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
