The Sharm El-Sheikh summit, co-chaired by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, witnessed the signing a historic document to end the Gaza war and featured over 30 world leaders and heads of state.

With hundreds of television channels and radio stations broadcasting live from Sharm El-Sheikh, the summit had attracted millions around the world, according to the State Information Service (SIS).

The wide global media coverage hailed Egypt’s decisive diplomatic role under President El-Sisi in securing the Gaza deal, overseeing its implementation and launching the process for reconstruction and lasting peace.

Wide international coverage

According to the SIS, the unprecedented international coverage reflected the global recognition of Egypt’s leadership in restoring regional stability.

More than 138 international media outlets covered the event extensively, with European media leading in volume and depth of reporting due to the participation of the largest number of European heads of state and government.

Among the prominent US outlets reporting on the summit were The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, and Axios, while leading European platforms included the UK’s Daily Mail, The Independent, and BBC; France’s Le Figaro, and Le Monde; Germany’s Deutsche Welle; and Italy’s Corriere della Sera.

Global praise for Egypt’s leadership

Head of SIS Diaa Rashwan said that global media outlets unanimously praised Egypt’s historic role in achieving the Gaza ceasefire, ending the war, and delivering aid to Palestinians.

According to Rashwan, reports highlighted the Sharm El-Sheikh summit as a landmark historic event, ushering in a new era for regional peace, especially regarding the Palestinian cause, which President El-Sisi called on world leaders to find a just solution that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their own state.

He noted unprecedented global media attention, with hundreds of millions following the summit live in multiple languages.

Egypt’s image on global display

Rashwan said the wide media coverage presented a vivid image of Egypt’s wisdom, leading diplomacy, regional influence, and stability amid a turbulent region.

The event, he added, proved Egypt’s ability to organize major international gatherings swiftly and showcased Sharm El-Sheikh’s modern infrastructure and scenic beauty.

International outlets also emphasized Egypt’s and President El-Sisi’s pivotal role in hosting the summit and establishing peace in the Middle East—a role without which the Gaza deal would not have been achieved—with world leaders—including Trump—praising El-Sisi as a “great leader and peacemaker.”

Diplomatic success

Global media described the summit as a major diplomatic achievement reaffirming Egypt’s central role in regional and global diplomacy, as resolving the remaining issues in Trump’s plan is seen as vital to ensuring a lasting end to the war.

The media praised Egypt’s balanced policy, which preserved the Palestinian cause and resisted displacement plans.

News media outlets also noted that Egyptian diplomacy overcame a period of tension with the US after relocation proposals, maintaining its strategic partnership with Washington while defending national interests and moral commitments to Palestine.

Additionally, these outlets underlined Egypt’s decisive role in Trump’s Gaza plan, adding that Egypt continues to seek long-term international commitments for peace; consistent with its belief that resolving the conflict must be a collective global effort.

City of Peace

Reports also said that Sharm El-Sheikh, the “City of Peace,” carries special symbolism, having previously hosted Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. The city has now become a diplomatic stage where world leaders gathered to announce the end of a war that ravaged Gaza for more than two years.

Furthermore, international outlets said the summit gave global legitimacy to the Gaza ceasefire, consolidating it in a way that secures the interests of the Palestinians and the wider region, and perhaps prevents dangerous future shifts, as analysts suggest.

This international recognition ensures that neither Israel nor the US can later retract their commitments, since the absence of such legitimacy would leave everything subject to the will of the US and Israeli leaders.

New peace partners

The summit also introduced new peace partners such as Italy, whose prime minister’s attendance signaled Rome’s growing role in diplomacy and Gaza’s reconstruction.

Over time, this may be seen as a consistent, realistic approach to peace or a complicated mediation among diverse global interests.

Although Russia and China did not attend, both reaffirmed support for peace and the two-state solution as the only path to lasting stability, urging the UN—especially the Security Council—to act decisively.

Additionally, both nations praised Egypt’s leadership and participated actively in de-escalation efforts.

Lasting economic impact

Media reports further stressed that all parties should seize this opportunity for a renewed, time-bound political process, noting that a lasting ceasefire and peace would bring major economic benefits, especially for global trade and the Suez Canal.

Though the scale of this positive impact will depend on regional developments, especially in the Red Sea, the improvement in maritime traffic, they added, is expected to appear gradually over the coming weeks once stability returns not only to Gaza but to the region as a whole.
