El-Sisi said the new terminal should feature modern air navigation, ground operations, and building management technologies, according to a presidential statement on Saturday.
He also urged integrating research-based innovations to ensure the facility meets global sustainability and efficiency standards.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny, and senior advisers to review ongoing aviation projects.
The expansion aims to double Cairo International Airport’s capacity and strengthen its position as a regional hub, supporting Egypt’s goal of attracting 30 million tourists annually.
According to El-Hefny, Terminal 4 will have the capacity to handle at least 30 million passengers a year, bringing the airport’s total to about 60 million once complete.
The project, expected to cost $4.5 billion, is set for completion within four years.
Currently, Cairo Airport’s three existing terminals handle about 28 million passengers annually. In 2024, the facility served 27.7 million passengers and operated more than 211,000 flights.
El-Sisi also reviewed plans to upgrade airports nationwide, targeting an overall capacity of 72 million passengers a year by the end of 2025.
He called for more foreign investment through integrated zones around airports and ordered all projects to comply with environmental standards as part of Egypt’s transition to a green economy.
