According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the Norwegian prime minister congratulated President El-Sisi on the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s intensive efforts to broker the ceasefire in Gaza and for inviting Norway to take part in the summit.

In return, El-Sisi welcomed Støre’s participation, reaffirming Egypt’s appreciation for its strong partnership with Norway and their shared commitment to promoting regional stability.

The president also praised Norway’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, particularly its recognition of the State of Palestine in May 2024. He described the Norwegian stance as a model that reflects a genuine adherence to the two-state solution as the foundation for a just and lasting peace.

The Norwegian prime minister reiterated in turn his country’s support for humanitarian efforts in Gaza. He also stressed the importance of launching a political process that culminates in the two-state solution. Norway, he affirmed, continues to engage with all concerned parties to achieve these goals.

Moreover, Støre commended Egypt’s wisdom and pivotal role in de-escalating regional tensions. He also emphasised the importance of gradually involving the Palestinians in the administration of Gaza, excluding Hamas.

El-Sisi briefed the Norwegian PM on the progress of implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement. He also shared Egypt’s intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.

Furthermore, the president said Egypt looked forward to enhancing cooperation with Norway on preparing for the conference and ensuring Norway’s active participation – an initiative Støre welcomed. He affirmed Norway’s commitment to continuing consultation and coordination with Egypt on the reconstruction of Gaza.

Turning to bilateral relations, the two sides took pride in the growing partnership between Egypt and Norway, particularly following President El-Sisi’s visit to Norway in December 2024.

They agreed to explore new areas of cooperation, especially in renewable energy. They also discussed the projects carried out by the Norwegian company Scatec in Egypt, with Støre affirming Norway’s interest in establishing Egypt as a regional hub for new and renewable energy.
