The occasion represents one of Egypt's most significant military victories. It marked the first successful combat use of ship-launched anti-ship missiles, when Egyptian missile boats destroyed the Eilat off Port Said using Soviet-made Styx missiles.
Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Vice Admiral Mahmoud Adel Mahmoud Fawzi, said the commemoration of this historic day embodies the enduring strength of Egypt’s military doctrine.
It also demonstrates the Armed Forces’ capability to confront any challenge to the nation’s sovereignty, he added during a press conference at Navy Headquarters to mark the occasion.
He praised the strategic vision of the political leadership and the General Command of the Armed Forces in continuing to modernize and develop the Navy’s combat capabilities through the acquisition of advanced vessels and state-of-the-art weapon systems.
This development, alongside improving training programs, aims to build a force capable of safeguarding Egypt’s territorial waters and national resources, he pointed out.
Vice Admiral Fawzi congratulated all naval personnel on this distinguished occasion, expressing appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices in upholding the proud legacy of their predecessors.
He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to maintaining the highest levels of combat readiness to carry out any mission required, regardless of the sacrifices demanded.
