According to the nominees’ lists announced by the African football governing body (CAF) on Wednesday, the record seven-time African champions Egypt will be competing for the National team of the year prize alongside other nine teams.
The Pharaohs coach and former Ahly and Zamalek icon Hossam Hassan was also on the spot after being selected among the nominees for coach of the year award.
The former veteran striker recently managed to lead Egypt to the 2026 World Cup finals, for the fourth time in their history.
Egypt skipper and Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah will also be competing again for the CAF player of the year award.
Salah, who guided Liverpool for the Premier League title this year and also Egypt for the World Cup finals, won the continental prize two times before in 2017 and 2018.
After an astonishing season, Salah won both the PFA Players' Player of the Year and Football Writers' Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year awards for the 2024/25 season, making him the first player to win the PFA award three times.
Pyramids FC dominate at club level competition
African Champions Pyramids, who were recently crowned Super Cup winners, are in the race for several awards.
They are top favorits to scoop the Club of the Year award but also their stars Fiston Mayele, Ibrahim Adel, Mohamed Chibi and Ahmed El Shenawy are competing for all the individual prizes.
Coach Krunoslav Jurčić has also been nominated for the Coach of the Year Award alongside Hassan.
