In a statement on Wednesday, the committee said investigations had concluded with disciplinary measures against both players.

Assar was sanctioned for threatening to withdraw from a match and deliberately stopping play after objecting to his teammate’s presence on the court, behaviour that could have led to Egypt's disqualification from the contest.

Helmy, the son of the Egyptian Table Tennis Federation president, was fined for inappropriate conduct and for breaching team ethics, including refusing to support teammates while representing Egypt.

Both players received a final warning that any further violations within one year would result in permanent disqualification.

The penalties follow a verbal altercation between Assar and Helmy during the men’s final against Algeria, which marred Egypt’s campaign. Assar later said the dispute arose from a “lack of respect” shown by his teammate during the match.

The Egyptian Table Tennis Federation has also referred both players for a formal disciplinary investigation.
