He further revealed that several academic institutions in the UK expressed interest in collaborating with the Grand Egyptian Museum in the fields of research and restoration. At the same time, many travel companies sought coordination to organise trips to visit the new cultural landmarks, underscoring Egypt's strengthened position as a global hub for cultural tourism.
During his remarks, Daniel Antonio, Head of the Egypt and Sudan Department at the British Museum, described the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramids as a unique historic event and a living testament to the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilisation. He also described it as a symbol of the ongoing collaboration between cultural institutions in Egypt and the United Kingdom.
Antonio noted that the British Museum houses one of the world's largest collections of Egyptian antiquities. He stated that he takes pride in partaking of the celebration, held just one hour after the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
A live broadcast of the official GEM opening ceremony in Cairo constituted a key part of the programme, offering guests a virtual glimpse of the new museum's monumental scale and architectural grandeur.
The celebration also featured a joint artistic performance, where Egyptian mezzosoprano Hayat Selim accompanied world-renowned British musician Brian Hughes in an iconic performance at the reception.
