A proposal by Sudan's international mediators outlines a three-month ceasefire across the country, a senior official from Saudi Arabia told AFP on Thursday.

The United States, Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia proposed a "three-month humanitarian truce in all Sudan," the official said.

During this potential ceasefire, efforts will be made to bring together the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army for talks in Jeddah on a permanent peace deal, he said.

The Sudanese army and the national government indicated earlier this week that they would press on with the war against the RSF militia following an internal meeting on a US ceasefire proposal.
