In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry affirmed that this step reflects confidence in the Council’s independence, effectiveness, and intensive efforts to promote and protect human rights in their comprehensive sense.

The ministry emphasised that this decision affirms the international community’s recognition of the progress achieved by the Egyptian state and its national institutions in recent years at the domestic level under the leadership of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

These efforts, the ministry noted, aimed to advance human rights across various political, economic, social, and cultural fields. They also reinforce the principles of human rights, the rule of law, and citizenship, while safeguarding the rights and dignity of Egyptian citizens.

The statement underscored that this decision comes as part of a series of successes achieved by Egypt in the field of human rights, most recently Egypt’s election to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026–2028 term; a reflection of Egypt’s esteemed standing and growing recognition on the international stage.

It also praised President El-Sisi’s commitment to strengthening and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms in recent years, particularly through the launch of the National Human Rights Strategy (NHRS) in 2021.

The strategy, the ministry noted, has provided an integrated framework for all state bodies and institutions to enhance the legislative and institutional systems supporting human rights.

In monitoring the implementation of the strategy, the state has produced periodic reports, the latest of which, the fourth report, was delivered to President El-Sisi in September by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in his capacity as Chair of the Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights (SSCHR).

The ministry affirmed that it is working in coordination with all relevant national authorities to implement President El-Sisi’s directives to launch the new NHRS for the next five years, thus giving impetus to Egypt’s ongoing progress in consolidating comprehensive human rights principles and sustainable development.
