The seven-time African champions are holding this camp as part of their preparations for the anticipated African Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to run from 21 December to 18 January 2026 in Morocco.

The team will take part in a four-team friendly tournament during the camp, alongside Iran, Cape Verde, and Uzbekistan.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), Pyramids FC’s in-form goalkeeper, Ahmed El-Shenawy, has returned to the Pharaohs squad after nearly two years away since his participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024.

Left-back Ahmed Fatouh has also been recalled after returning to action with Zamalek following months of on-and off-pitch troubles.

Masry striker Salah Mohsen, who has previously played five times for Egypt, earned his first call-up in over four years since last appearing in the 1–1 World Cup qualifier against Gabon on 5 September 2021.

Coach Hassan selected six foreign-based players for the camp, led by team captain and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. Manchester City winger Omar Marmoush also rejoins the squad after recovering from the injury that sidelined him during last month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The announced list also includes first call-ups for Zamalek defender Mohamed Ismail and Ceramica Cleopatra striker Marwan Osman.

Under former Ahly and Zamalek star Hassan, Egypt qualified for the African Cup finals, topping Group C in the qualifiers with 14 points.

The Pharaohs, who also secured their place at the 2026 World Cup finals last month, have been drawn in Group B at the AFCON alongside Angola, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
