Madbouly also inspected Egypt’s first locally manufactured amphibious bus and reviewed a lineup of electric buses, taxis, and metro trains, all part of a state-led strategy to localize transport manufacturing.

The launch took place at the 6th Smart Transport, Infrastructure, Logistics and Industry Exhibition and Conference (TransMEA 2025), held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre.

High-speed rail trial operation

During the visit, the prime minister gave the official signal to begin trial runs of the German-made Desiro train along the first section of the high-speed electric rail line, which runs from the Water Bridge to the Fayoum Bridge, reaching kilometer 143.

The test, broadcast live, showcased a key segment of the 660-kilometer route connecting Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea to Alamein and Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean.

The project is being implemented by the National Authority for Tunnels in partnership with a consortium led by Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction, and Arab Contractors.

During the tour, Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir described the project, which is set to be the sixth largest of its kind in the world, as “a national achievement built by Egyptian engineers and workers.”

He said the high-speed system will connect industrial zones such as Helwan, Borg El-Arab, 6th of October, New Minya, and New Assiut, with tourism destinations like Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and the Red Sea resorts, as well as new agricultural regions including the New Delta, Future of Egypt, Toshka, and West Minya.

It will also form logistical corridors linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, creating thousands of jobs, he added.

The network will span the country, linking industrial zones such as Helwan, Borg El-Arab, 6th of October, New Minya, and New Assiut, with tourism destinations like Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and the Red Sea resorts, as well as new agricultural regions including the New Delta, Future of Egypt, Toshka, and West Minya.

The Siemens-built “Velaro” train, which will also be used on the high-speed line, was inspected during the event. The Velaro includes eight connected cars stretching 200 meters, with space for 479 passengers.

It features Wi-Fi, power outlets, digital information screens, and separate family and business-class cabins.

Amphibious bus and local transport production

Madbouly also inspected the amphibious bus, which will be locally produced to serve tourism routes combining land and water.

Other locally manufactured buses and electric taxis were showcased by Hassan El-Leithy, Chairman of Super Jet Company, including models from El Nasr Automotive, MCV Egypt, MAN KASTOUR, and Volvo Egypt.

At the ACTA Company pavilion, officials displayed electric buses and taxis, including a Haiger bus with 60 percent local content and a Yutong bus with 50 percent local content, alongside GM4 and Dong Long electric taxis operating in the New Capital.

Madbouly also viewed a traffic education model city designed by the Ministry of Transport to teach children safe road practices, and later inspected the first of 55 new metro trains for Cairo Metro Line 1, equipped with high-capacity air conditioning, safety cameras, LCD information screens, and wheelchair-accessible spaces, enhancing passenger comfort and accessibility.

Expanding local manufacturing and industrial partnerships

The Prime Minister toured Egyptian-built tourist and intercity coaches, BRT buses, minibuses linking monorail and LRT stations, refurbished Spanish sleeper and club train carriages, concrete sleepers and track switches produced locally, and marine launches deployed in national ports.

He also met representatives of international firms, including Alstom, AVIC, Siemens, Orascom, and NERIC, who reaffirmed plans to expand local production capacity and integrate advanced technologies into Egypt’s transport networks.

Integrated transport, industry, and investment

Officials at the National Authority for Tunnels, Egyptian National Railways, and Alexandria Port Authority presented investment opportunities, highlighting how expanding transport infrastructure enhances connectivity, attracts investment, creates employment, and strengthens Egypt’s competitiveness across Arab and African markets.

Madbouly stated that the advancements demonstrated at TransMEA 2025 “reflect Egypt's determination to build a sustainable, smart, and locally powered transport system,” positioning the country as a regional hub for advanced mobility and industrial development.

The exhibition features 500 companies from 30 countries and provides a platform for governments, investors, and technology leaders to showcase innovations in intelligent transport, infrastructure, and industrial integration.
