In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Egypt’s “sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Turkey,” reaffirming its solidarity with Ankara “in this painful incident” and offering its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims.
The statement added that Egypt stands by Turkey “in this difficult time,” wishing patience and comfort to the victims’ families.
The Turkish Defence Ministry said the Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport plane, operated by the Turkish Air Force, crashed on Tuesday in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region near the border with Azerbaijan.
The aircraft was returning to Turkey from Ganja International Airport in Azerbaijan when it disappeared from radar and went down near the Georgian town of Sighnaghi.
Georgian authorities said the plane broke apart on impact, and rescue teams found no survivors among the soldiers and crew.
Turkish and Georgian investigators have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the crash, which occurred without any reported distress signal.
The crash is one of Turkey’s deadliest military aviation accidents in recent years and comes amid growing logistical cooperation between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
