The dispatch is part of the Zad Al-Izza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative, launched by Egypt on 27 July to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The convoy includes over 3,900 tons of food baskets and flour, around 3,000 tons of essential medical and relief supplies, and about 1,500 tons of fuel, according to a statement by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC).

Since the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza, Egypt has worked with the United Nations and international partners to channel humanitarian assistance to the war-torn territory.

Despite the ongoing Israeli blockade, Egypt has delivered over 500,000 tons of aid to Gaza through the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem crossings since October 2023.

The aid operations were coordinated by the ERC, which manages tens of logistics hubs, through a volunteer force of 35,000 people.

In tandem, Egyptian and Turkish foreign ministers are scheduled to meet in Ankara to discuss the next phase of the ceasefire agreement reached on 9 October, including post-war governance, reconstruction plans, and coordination of relief corridors.

International media reports indicate that plans are under review to establish a logistics and stabilization base near Gaza to manage humanitarian operations, reconstruction logistics, and post-war security coordination.

The reports added that the base would accommodate up to 10,000 personnel from an international coalition but would not include US combat troops.

Instead, it would focus on civilian coordination, engineering, and humanitarian relief, working closely with Egypt, the UN, and regional partners to maintain aid flow and prepare for large-scale reconstruction when conditions allow.

The proposed facility could serve as a staging and coordination point for future UN-led or Arab-African-backed reconstruction efforts, following models used in previous post-conflict regions.
