FM Abdelatty reaffirms Egypt’s support for UN development efforts in Middle East

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed on Thursday Egypt’s commitment to supporting the UN efforts to promote sustainable development in the Middle East, especially amid the current political, security, economic, and social challenges.

Abdelatty made these remarks during a meeting with Abdullah Dardari, the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States at the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Palestine, Ramiz Alakbarov.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the meeting addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the UN, where Abdelatty underscored the state’s role as a key partner in enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise among developing countries.

He also commended the UN efforts to support development in partnership with the Egyptian government, contributing to the implementation of the state’s development agenda in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

Additionally, the Egyptian FM praised the UN’s constructive role in supporting peace and sustainable development regionally and globally.

During the meeting, Abdelatty reviewed ongoing preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction and Development in Gaza, which will be held in Cairo.

He looked forward to the active participation of UN agencies and programmes in the conference, stressing that their extensive expertise would prove invaluable, particularly during the early recovery phase leading up to reconstruction.

Moreover, the Egyptian FM stressed the importance of providing the necessary support for the conference to ensure clear commitments to launching the recovery projects immediately to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
