Grand Imam of Al-Azhar receives global thinker Jeffrey Sachs at his home in Luxor
Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, Prof. Ahmed El-Tayeb, received on Thursday world-renowned economist and thinker Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development at Columbia University in the United States, at his residence in Al-Qurna, Luxor.

The meeting included a cordial discussion on major global developments and the challenges facing the region.
The Grand Imam expressed his appreciation for Professor Sachs’s fair-minded positions and writings, particularly regarding Gaza and Palestine, describing them as reflecting a wise intellect that understands the true message of all religions — to stand with the oppressed regardless of faith, gender, or ethnicity, and to promote genuine coexistence founded on equality, rights, and human dignity.
Professor Sachs, in turn, expressed his great honour and joy at meeting the Grand Imam, praising his courageous efforts to promote global peace and human fraternity. He said that “the voice of Imam El-Tayeb represents the voice of truth and humanity,” stressing that the world should listen carefully to his vision.
Sachs also conveyed his delight at visiting Egypt and Luxor, as well as Al-Azhar Mosque — a historic centre of learning that continues to radiate knowledge and enlightenment across the world.
