The Leopards booked their place in Sunday’s final after skipper Chancel Mbemba struck in the first minute of stoppage time, shattering the Indomitable Lions’ hopes of reaching a second straight World Cup.

The victory followed a strong qualifying campaign for DR Congo, who closed out Group B with back-to-back wins and finished just two points behind leaders Senegal.

Meanwhile, Cameroon’s elimination comes after a disappointing run in Group D, where they only won two of their last five qualifiers to finish four points behind Cape Verde.

With this victory, DR Congo advance to the final playoff against Nigeria, scheduled for Sunday in Rabat, as a win over Nigeria would secure their first-ever qualification for the World Cup.
