The Ministry of Health and Population today announced the results of the “Albak Amana” campaign, which it launched in February 2023 in collaboration with Bayer Consumer Health – Middle East, to enhance early detection and prevention of cardiovascular diseases across the country.

The campaign comes as part of a series of joint public–private initiatives under the major presidential program “100 Million Health,” which seeks to enhance the health of Egyptian citizens and improve the quality of healthcare services.

Since its launch, the “Albak Amana” campaign has expanded access to high-quality cardiovascular screening through the Ministry of Health and Population’s primary healthcare network, with a focus on reaching the most vulnerable groups across all governorates.

The campaign’s efforts included:
    •    Equipping 401 primary healthcare units with the latest medical devices.
    •    Training physicians and healthcare providers on the latest screening, consultation, and referral protocols.
    •    Launching national awareness programs to encourage early screening and promote healthy lifestyles.

To date, the campaign has provided screenings and medical consultations to millions of patients across various governorates, contributing to risk assessment, timely diagnosis, and referral to the appropriate levels of care.

Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, affirmed that this important milestone reflects nationwide efforts to enhance the health of Egyptians and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases—especially cardiovascular diseases, which represent one of the world’s and Egypt’s most significant health challenges and the leading cause of death globally and nationally.

He explained that under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian state has placed the health of citizens at the forefront of its priorities. This commitment materialized through the historic “100 Million Health” initiative, which created a major shift in the concepts of prevention, early detection, and universal health coverage.

In this context, the “Albak Amana” campaign stands as one of the leading executive programs derived from the initiative, with strategic objectives focused on protecting the hearts of Egyptians and reinforcing the understanding that prevention begins with knowing and controlling risk factors.

The health minister noted that the campaign was launched on 6 February 2023 in partnership with Bayer, in a model that reflects the importance of collaboration between the government, the private sector, and international partners. This cooperation has extended to support 401 health facilities across 21 governorates, providing advanced medical equipment and training thousands of medical team members on the latest clinical protocols for early detection and management of chronic diseases.

From the campaign’s launch until August 2025, the initiative succeeded in delivering a wide range of health and awareness services to millions of citizens, resulting in important indicators, including:
    •    343,633 diabetes patients screened and followed up
    •    307,431 hypertension patients
    •    300,232 cases with both hypertension and diabetes
    •    269,111 ECG screenings
    •    440,481 cardiovascular risk assessments

Minister Abdel-Ghaffar emphasized that these figures reflect the extensive efforts and impact of the campaign on citizens’ health across all governorates.

The campaign also provided an integrated package of diagnostic services, including HbA1c testing, diabetic foot screening, periodic blood pressure measurements, referrals for advanced examinations, and comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessments based on age groups and risk profiles—leading to referral to higher levels of care when needed, thereby contributing to improved service quality and long-term health indicators.

Minister Abder-Ghaffar extended his appreciation to all medical teams—doctors, nurses, and rural health workers—who form the backbone of this national effort. He also expressed gratitude to Bayer for its continued collaboration and to all supporting entities that contributed to delivering high-quality services to citizens efficiently.

In conclusion, Dr Abdel-Ghaffar reaffirmed the Health Ministry’s commitment to continuing its work to advance health programs and national initiatives dedicated to the well-being of Egyptians, enhancing the state’s ability to address non-communicable diseases, and ensuring fair and high-quality healthcare services for every citizen in every governorate, village, and community.

He concluded: “Every Egyptian heart is a trust… and it is our collective responsibility to protect it and work together for a healthier society and a more stable future.”

Dr Rasha Khadr, Head of the Primary Healthcare and Family Development Sector, stated that primary healthcare represents the first point of contact between citizens and the health system, and is the most effective environment for promoting healthy behaviours and early detection of risk factors.

She explained that the proximity of primary healthcare units to communities and their daily engagement with families make them the ideal setting for raising awareness and encouraging proper practices such as balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and smoking cessation—alongside providing preventive, treatment, and follow-up services for chronic diseases.

She added that the role of primary care includes ongoing health education, early detection of risk factors through presidential initiatives, integration of obesity, psychological support, and state-funded treatment services within units, as well as training medical teams to support citizens in adopting healthy lifestyle habits.

High-risk groups—including smokers, individuals with obesity, hypertension and diabetes patients, and adults over 40—are among the main target groups of these programs.

For his part, Dr Jaser Yousri, Consumer Health Director at Bayer Egypt and the Gulf, expressed his pride in the positive impact achieved by the campaign on the ground, saying:

“At Bayer, we believe that innovation and sustainable development are the foundation for building a stronger, healthier future. Our global commitment to ‘Health for all… Hunger for none’ guides our work locally and internationally, and we look forward to deepening our partnership with the Ministry of Health to reach more citizens.”

He noted that the strong results achieved to date in partnership with the Ministry pave the way for expanding cooperation over the next two years and increasing the number of primary healthcare centers participating in the initiative, in line with the ongoing transformation of Egypt’s healthcare system and efforts to enhance its efficiency in serving Egyptian patients.

The “Albak Amana” campaign continues to support national efforts to reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases through:
    •    Expanding the scope of free screenings in primary care units, especially in underserved areas.
    •    Training medical personnel on the latest prevention, screening, and referral protocols.
    •    Increasing public awareness of risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, and physical inactivity.
