President Lee's visit marks a significant milestone in the growing Egypt–Korea partnership, which has expanded steadily over the past decade in industry, investment, and development.

South Korea is one of Egypt’s key Asian economic partners, with annual bilateral trade exceeding $3 billion and more than 140 Korean companies operating in the country.

Major firms such as Samsung, LG, Hyundai Rotem, and SK lead these investments in sectors including electronics, automotive components, renewable energy, and advanced transport manufacturing.

Cooperation between Cairo and Seoul has strengthened since El-Sisi’s 2022 state visit to South Korea, when both sides agreed to upgrade relations to a comprehensive cooperative partnership.

This progress has continued through a series of ministerial visits and technical delegations that expanded joint work on localizing manufacturing, including railway components and new electric vehicle technologies, as well as major infrastructure and smart mobility projects.

Development cooperation is another major area of partnership. Korea’s development agency, KOICA, has increased its grants and training programmes in digital transformation, education, and public administration reform, supporting Egypt’s broader reform efforts.

In the industry, Egypt hosts Samsung’s largest smartphone manufacturing hub in the Middle East and Africa, making the country a regional export base and reflecting Korea’s growing confidence in the Egyptian market.

At the regional and international levels, Egypt and Korea coordinate closely in platforms such as the African Union–Korea Forum, the G77, and the United Nations, giving the visit an added strategic dimension.

The Korean president’s visit is expected to lead to new agreements and memoranda of understanding that will deepen strategic cooperation and create new opportunities for trade, investment, and technological collaboration.
