Meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, Abdelatty stressed the importance of enabling the newly mandated International Stabilization Force (ISF) to deploy and carry out its responsibilities.

He said the force is essential for consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring security for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to a foreign ministry statement.

UNSC Resolution 2803, drafted by the US, endorses the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire, in place since 10 October, and sets out a transitional governance mechanism — the “Board of Peace” — to administer Gaza and oversee reconstruction until 2027. It authorizes an international security mission operating independently of local authorities and outlines steps aimed at reviving political talks on a path toward Palestinian self-determination.

On Friday, in two separate interviews on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Minister Abdelatty urged the international community to ensure the full implementation of 2803 and strengthen the Gaza ceasefire under the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement.

On Saturday, FM Abdelatty also reviewed with his Saudi counterpart efforts to stabilize the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas -- brokered on 11 October by Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, and the US -- and preparations for the upcoming international conference on early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.

The Egyptian and Saudi consultations come amid continued deadly Israeli violations of the 11 October ceasefire. Since then, Israel has killed over 300 Palestinians and wounded hundreds in strikes across Gaza and restricted the entry of humanitarian aid to the 2.3 million population in violation of the truce deal. On Saturday, Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip killed more than 22 and wounded dozens of others.

Immediately after 11 October, Egyptian bulldozers started removing debris and rubble in the Gaza Strip to open highways and roads to clear the way for the reconstruction of the war-destroyed strip. Egypt has prepared an extensive reconstruction plan in Gaza, which was adopted by the Arab countries during the Arab Summit in March 2025.

In their talks, Abdelatty and Prince Faisal also discussed the crisis in Sudan, reviewing coordination under the Quad framework, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the US.

They called for a comprehensive ceasefire and the conditions needed to restart a political process, stressing the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and stability.

The ministers reaffirmed their backing for Sudanese national institutions and the need for concerted Arab and regional efforts to end the suffering of the Sudanese people.

Regarding Lebanon, Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of preserving its stability, unity, and territorial integrity, cautioning against any steps that could escalate the situation, the statement noted.

Both sides reiterated their support for Lebanese state institutions, respect for its sovereignty, and the necessity of ensuring a smooth transition through the current phase to maintain regional peace and security.

Additionally, the meeting addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations and coordinate positions on the latest regional developments of mutual concern.

The two top diplomats noted the positive momentum across various sectors, affirming that this reflects the continuous directives of the leadership in both countries to enhance close coordination in the service of the interests of the two peoples.

They also stressed the importance of finalizing arrangements for the inaugural meeting of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council.

To be chaired by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the near future, the Council is expected to propel the strategic cooperation between the two nations to broader horizons, the statement noted.
