In a new step in its digital transformation of the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has installed electronic entry gates and self-service ticketing machines at another group of major museums and archaeological sites.

This includes the Sharm El-Sheikh Museum, the Hurghada Museum, the Alexandria National Museum, and the Kom El-Shoqafa Catacombs in Alexandria. A new self-service ticketing machine was also installed at Kom El-Shoqafa, offering visitors a faster and easier way to purchase tickets for all museums and archaeological sites in Alexandria.

The move forms part of the ministry’s efforts to enhance the visitor experience at heritage sites, improve service quality, and expand smart tourism solutions.

Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, described the upgraded system as a key pillar of the ministry’s integrated electronic ticketing platform.

He said tickets can now be purchased through several channels: the self-service machines, automated ticket kiosks, and the official online booking website, www.egymonuments.com

He added that the ministry is working to gradually roll out e-gates and self-service machines at additional museums and archaeological sites according to a set implementation timeline, to improve service quality and elevate the overall visitor experience.

Mohamed Shaaban, Assistant Minister for Digital Services, said the new e-gates are fully linked to the digital ticketing system and operate by scanning the QR codes printed on electronic tickets. The self-service machines rely exclusively on electronic payments using bank cards, ensuring smooth and secure transactions.

The ministry’s electronic ticketing platform also includes the Experience Egypt mobile application—available on both the Play Store and App Store—alongside a central booking hub that provides bundled ticketing services for tour operators.

To date, the digital ticketing system has been activated at 110 museums and archaeological sites nationwide.

Key locations include the Giza Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Saladin Citadel, the Temple of Deir El-Bahari, Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, the Abu Simbel Temples in Aswan, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC).
