The draw for the 2026 World Cup took place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on Friday.

The Atlas Lions will kick off their group-stage campaign against Brazil.

Morocco secured their place in the 2026 World Cup finals with a perfect record, collecting 24 points from eight games in the African qualifiers.

Meanwhile, fellow African side Senegal, the second African side in Pot 2, will begin their World Cup campaign against France after being drawn into Group I, where they will also face Norway and the winner of Playoff 2. In 2002, débutant Senegal created one of the biggest upsets of the World Cup history after beating defending Champions France in their opening match. A memory they will hope to repeat in America.

Algeria will face defending champions, Argentina, with Lionel Messi set to lead his team in the opening match of their World Cup campaign. They have been drawn into Group J, which also includes Austria and Jordan.

South Africa has been placed in Group A alongside hosts Mexico, South Korea, and the winner of UEFA Playoff D. They will play the opening game of the 2026 World Cup on 11 June in Mexico City. It is almost a replay of the 2010 World Cup opener when hosts South Africa played Mexico (1-1) which kicked off also on 11 June.
