This came during a phone call with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty emphasized to Grossi the need for ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions, build trust, and create the conditions necessary to maintain ongoing cooperation, providing a genuine opportunity for diplomatic solutions and resuming dialogue.
The Egyptian FM further affirmed Cairo’s full support for the IAEA’s important role within the verification system framework under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
He said that Egypt places great importance on preserving the principle of the universality of the Treaty, preventing nuclear proliferation, and maintaining the Treaty’s credibility as a cornerstone of the non-proliferation system.
During the call, Abdelatty and Grossi also discussed bilateral cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy to support national development efforts, particularly the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, which serves as a model of cooperation and coordination between Egypt and the IAEA.
