During the meeting, held on the sidelines of their participation in the Doha Forum, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on the necessity of preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity. He also expressed Egypt's support for the institutions of the national state so they can fulfil their responsibilities in safeguarding the country’s stability and protecting the rights and resources of the Syrian people.
Egypt’s top diplomat also underlined the importance of continuing efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, describing this as a fundamental pillar for restoring security and stability in Syria and the wider region.
Additionally, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s unequivocal rejection of any Israeli attacks targeting Syrian territory, warning against the dangers of exploiting the current regional circumstances to justify interventions or practices that undermine Syrian sovereignty.
He noted that Egypt continues to emphasize the importance of safeguarding Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity in any contacts with regional and international parties. He also expressed Egypt's firm rejection of any attempts to compromise Syria's security and stability.
Israeli attacks on Syria have intensified in recent months, with Damascus reporting a consistent uptick in strikes across multiple governorates.
The latest attack was recorded on Wednesday, when an Israeli drone struck an area in the Damascus countryside near Beit Jinn, marking the most recent violation of Syrian sovereignty.
This strike followed a series of similar incidents in late 2024 and 2025 that targeted sites in Damascus, Rural Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Latakia, and Deir Ezzor.
Lebanon and Syria have filed repeated complaints to the UN Security Council over these operations, citing clear breaches of sovereignty and warning that the attacks endanger civilian aviation and humanitarian operations.
UN officials and multiple Arab League statements have also voiced concern that Israel has been “exploiting the current regional circumstances” to justify deeper incursions into Syrian territory.
Russia and China have echoed these warnings at the Security Council, stressing that continued strikes risk broadening the conflict and undermining efforts to stabilize Syria and the wider region.
Egypt has maintained a consistent position in support of a political solution to the Syrian crisis, rooted in the principles of preserving Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, and the institutions of the national state.
Cairo has repeatedly affirmed that any lasting settlement must ensure the security and stability of all Syrians, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation, and must avoid any steps that risk further fragmentation of the country.
