This exhibition offers a dual artistic vision that brings together the world of the great artist George Bahgoury and a curated collection of works by other leading Egyptian visual artists.

In its first section, the exhibition presents a selection from Bahgoury’s works, revealing his deep human sensibility, warm spirit, and unique ability to transform everyday moments into a vibrant world of life and symbolism.

The second section, titled "Art Selections," features chosen works by notable Egyptian artists representing different schools and perspectives within contemporary Egyptian visual art.

The exhibition provides space for contemplation on the heritage of modern Egyptian art and the subtle dialogue between generations, where artworks stand side by side to reveal the depth, diversity, and continuity of the artistic experience.

Bahgory’s artistic journey

Born in 1932, Bahgoury is one of the most prominent Egyptian visual artists, bringing together painting, drawing, sculpture, and caricature.

He is often referred to as the “Picasso of Egypt” for his distinctive approach to portraying environment, emotion, and expression, blending Cubism with Egyptian identity.

Bahgoury's artistic journey spans more than half a century, marked by vivid drawings and a spirited creative presence.

His political caricatures played a major role in shaping public consciousness across generations, during a period when fine arts served as a window of light.

He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo, graduating in 1955 under the guidance of Egyptian artist Hussein Bikar.

In 1970, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, where he has been living for several decades.

Bahgoury has worked as a political cartoonist since 1953 in numerous Egyptian publications, and in the late 1990s, he joined Al-Ahram Weekly as a caricaturist.

Bahgoury received many awards in painting and drawing and garnered numerous honours from the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

His works have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide, including the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in Amman, and the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo.

The exhibition opens on 13 December at Picasso East Art Gallery, Villa 39, El-Narges 3, 5th Settlement, 90 Street, in front of the Lake View compound.
