Al-Sabateen died on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, in an Israeli hospital after his health had sharply deteriorated due to deliberate medical negligence and poor detention conditions.

In its statement, the Arab League said it considers the death of Al-Sabateen, the sixth Palestinian prisoner to die in Israeli occupation prisons since the beginning of 2025, a new crime added to the record of systematic Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners and detainees and a blatant violation of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.

The AL added that the policy of deliberate medical negligence practised by the occupation prison administration against thousands of Palestinian prisoners, including children, women, and the sick, constitutes a form of slow killing and torture, which is prohibited under international law.

It called upon the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations, foremost among them the International Committee of the Red Cross, to intervene urgently to pressure the occupying power to immediately release the body of the martyr and hand it over to his family.

The AL also called upon the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to include the crime of deliberate medical negligence against prisoners in the ongoing investigations into war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The league also affirmed its full support for the Palestinian people until the end of the occupation and the achievement of freedom and independence.
