In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry emphasised the need to uphold the Washington peace agreement as a fundamental framework for building trust and reducing tensions, underscoring the necessity of implementing its practical steps to achieve peace in eastern DRC.
Cairo underlined the importance of halting hostilities and any field escalation, in a way that contributes to creating an environment conducive to dialogue and the restoration of stability, reaffirming its continuous support for the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of Congolese territory.
The ministry further noted the importance of facilitating humanitarian access, stressing the need to support regional and international efforts aimed at improving the humanitarian situation and preventing further deterioration.
Egypt renewed its support for regional and international initiatives aimed at enhancing security and stability, alleviating the suffering of affected populations, and backing every effort that contributes to consolidating peace in DRC.
The renewed violence in the DRC, which prompted thousands to flee eastern DRC, took place despite a peace deal with Rwanda brokered by US President Donald Trump on 4 December.
