According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty’s statements came during a meeting with the OCHA chief Tom Fletcher in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, on the sidelines of the Sir Bani Yas Forum, held on 12-14 December.

During the meeting, the Egyptian FM stressed that consolidating the Gaza ceasefire is a top priority, as it is a necessary entry point for the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan and the orderly transition to its second phase.

This, he noted, would ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip as well as the commencement of early recovery and reconstruction efforts, reiterating Egypt’s firm rejection of any Israeli attempts at displacing the Palestinians from the strip.

Abdelatty further highlighted the importance of maintaining close coordination with the UN to support stability and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Launched in 2011, the high-level policy forum is held annually in the UAE, bringing together senior government officials, diplomats, academics, policymakers and thought leaders from around the world.

FM Abdelatty also met with his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which they addressed regional issues of mutual concern, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, and the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Both sides also discussed the latest developments in Sudan and coordination within the framework of the Quad, in addition to the situations in Yemen, Syria, and Libya.

The Egyptian and Emirati top diplomats agreed to maintain coordination and consultation to achieve regional security and stability and enhance joint Arab action.

Abdelatty also held separate meetings with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, former Palestinian FM Nasser Al-Qudwa, Advisor to the French President for Middle East Affairs Anne-Claire Legendre, and former UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov.
