In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt said it was following with deep concern developments in South Kordofan, where the assault on the UN mission’s premises in the Abyei area of Kadugli resulted in the killing of six Bangladeshi soldiers and the injury of eight others during shelling by armed groups.

Cairo denounced the attack in the strongest terms, stressing that targeting UN peacekeeping missions constitutes a grave breach of international law and international humanitarian principles.

Egypt extended its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Bangladesh.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s call for an immediate ceasefire for an effective humanitarian response. It urged the international community to intensify efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and provide safe corridors for refugees fleeing the conflict.

Egypt also renewed its call for a comprehensive political solution, led by the Sudanese people, that preserves the unity of the Sudanese state and brings an end to the ongoing war.
