Egypt wingers Mahmoud “Trezeguet” Hassan and Ibrahim Adel will miss Tuesday’s friendly against Nigeria but they will be fit for the start of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) against Zimbabwe, team's director Ibrahim Hassan said on Monday.
The Pharaohs wrap up their AFCON preparations with a friendly game against Nigeria in Cairo on Tuesday before heading to Morocco, one day later.
The north african country will host AFCON from 21 December to 18 January, 2026.
“The technical staff decided to rest Trezeguet from training and the Nigeria friendly as he undergoes dental treatment,” Hassan said in a statement on the Egyptian Football Association’s Facebook page.
“Trezeguet will be ready for the Nations Cup opener against Zimbabwe,” he added.
Hassan also confirmed that Al Jazira winger Ibrahim Adel will also miss Nigeria's friendly after picking up an ankle sprain, stressing he will be available for Egypt’s opening AFCON match.
Egypt are in Group B alongside Angola, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
They will open their campaign against Zimbabwe on 22 December, face South Africa on 26 December and conclude the group stage against Angola on 29 December.
